Chennai Superkings fought off a spirited challenge from Mohali to record a 33 run victory at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.
Michael Hussey’s 116 from 54 balls was the quickest century in Twenty20 cricket as Chennai reached a massive 240-5 in their 20 overs batting first. Australian Hussey, hit 10 sixes and seven boundaries with a strike rate of 211.11 in an explosive innings.
In reply Mohali could only manage 207-4 in their 20 overs but with half centuries from Kumar Sangakkara (54) and Australian James Hopes, Mohali had a chance of victory even before Hopes (71) was removed by Palani Amarnath on the 11th over. By the time Sangakkara fell to Muralitharan on the 18th over however, all chances of a Punjab win were gone.
Final result: Chennai Superkings won by 33 runs.
